Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about getting the most out of Smart Mindz.

1. Voice Recognition & Kindergarten (Grade 0)

Why is my child’s microphone not picking up single letters or numbers?

Voice recognition software requires precise articulation, especially for very young children. When practicing single letters (e.g., “A”, “B”) or numbers (e.g., “1”, “5”) in Grade 0 modules, ensure your child speaks clearly and distinctly into the microphone. If the app struggles to register a single character, instruct your child to verbalize it clearly or say the full phrase (e.g., pronouncing the letter or number with clear emphasis) so the speech engine picks it up immediately.

Can my child use voice answers for spelling and reading modules?

Yes! For reading, the microphone listens automatically for fluent reading. For spelling modules, you can toggle voice-to-text answers on, allowing children to spell words out loud letter by letter (supported by a built-in phonetic map).

2. Understanding App Modes

What is the difference between the three app modes?

  • Learning Mode: Built specifically for young learners and foundational study. It provides gentle conversational prompts, phonetic breakdowns, and structured guidance to help children master new vocabulary.
  • Practice Mode: Designed for independent reinforcement. It removes the extra coaching cues, allowing children to test their speed and accuracy on familiar material without pressure.
  • Exam Mode: A strict assessment environment. It disables hints, answer reveals, and audio assistance to accurately evaluate true mastery and award points.

How do I switch between modes quickly?

You no longer need to return to the main menu. Use the interactive quick-mode toggle button located in the top navigation bar right next to your grade label to instantly switch between Learning, Practice, and Exam modes on the fly.

3. Parental Controls & Customization

Can I disable the arcade mini-games if I want to minimize distractions?

Yes. Parents have full administrative control over the gamification features. If you prefer a distraction-free study session, you can disable the arcade games directly through your parent settings or dashboard.

Can I customize the curriculum or grade level for my child?

Absolutely. The platform allows you to adjust grade levels, select the accuracy level for educational milestones and daily study routine.

4. Audio Assistance & Troubleshooting

Why won’t the “Listen” button or word-tapping work during exams?

To maintain the integrity of assessments, audio assistance, word pronunciation helpers, and hints are strictly disabled during Exam Mode. If a child taps a word or clicks “Listen” during an exam, the app will display a notification reminding them that they are in test mode.

What should I do if the microphone appears disabled or stops recognizing speech?

Web-based speech recognition relies exclusively on your device’s active audio stream. If another background application, active browser tab, or video conferencing tool (such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or another media app) is currently using or listening to your microphone, your operating system may block or cross-connect the audio feed, preventing the app from hearing your child.

To fix microphone interference:

  1. Close all other browser tabs and background applications that might be using audio or speech services.
  2. Restart your browser or device to clear any stuck audio buffers.
  3. Open the app in a fresh, isolated window.
  4. Ensure no other software is actively trying to listen through your microphone before clicking “Turn Mic On.”
